Praying Mantis fighting Wasps

I lived in the mountains of Crete in Greece for a while and one afternoon I spotted a praying mantis in the garden and took all excited pictures. And then suddenly something unexpected happened – a wasp attacked the praying mantis, at first I was afraid that something would happen to her… but these guys sure know how to fight. I was shocked what happened but see for yourself:

Incredibly fast she caught the attaking wasp. It never had a chance.

Here comes the second wasp and attackes
And within seconds she caught the second wasp too. The third wasp was driven back by the wings she opened. It must have been some kind of warning or selfdefense.
The praying mantis immediately started to feed on the wasps and disapeared into the high grass out of my sight.

They are incredible animals and I have never seen one up close before. But I also made sure to close the windows at night… ;-)
